The picture of the water falling at the Ecuator Line is dedicated to Jesus Gonzalez. "Jesus, tienes que encontrar una excusa para ir a verlo con tus propios ojos, vale la pena!". There are two experiments quite amazing at the exact Middle of the Earth:
The water at the Equator falls straight down, not to the left, nor to the right. And only along the exact line of the Equator. We moved the experiment two meters to the North, and the water flowed counterclockwise. Two meters to the South, and the water flowed clockwise. This is one of the most simple, beautiful and effective physics experiments we have ever seen!. The second experiment consists of balancing an egg on the head of the nail. The magnetic field keeps it straight up.
By the way the exact line is not were the monument is, but within the Inti-Ñam museum (scientific museum), about 500 meters up the road. Originally, we tried the water falling experiment in the bathroom at the official Equator Monument, but the water seemed to still flow clockwise. Fortunately a guard tipped us off to the real Equator, just a short way up the road. It turns out the French were just a little bit off in their calculations in the XVIII century.
The GPS read about 33 seconds off the actual mark, and when we signed the guest book we discovered that many other GPS owners have passed by this point trying to find the real zero. The real proof is watching the water fall.
